Berlin Twp. Fire Department, Berlin Heights, Ohio. New KME Engine. This was the second truck Sensible Products outfitted for the Berlin Twp. Fire Department. The truck and equipment was delivered to Sensible Products in Richfield and we worked with the F.D. members to determine locations of the equipment. First drivers side compartment consisted of two vertical slide out panels where all the water flow equipment and tools were mounted. Chanl Panl boards were installed on all four sides of the slide outs. All fittings were mounted on posts or holders on one side of the slide out, a piercing nozzle and foam tube on the opposite side. On the second slide out panel an SCBA for the driver was mounted, along with 3/4″ hose and nozzle. Tools were mounted on the opposite side of this panel including a pipe wrench, pry bar, bolt cutters, hammer, and a sledge hammer that was mounted in a plastic welded bracket. Also in this compartment, Sensible Products designed and fabricated a bracket to hold flare tubes. Made from black welded HDPE plastic, this was a custom item designed for this F.D. to house the flare tubes in an accessible yet up and out of the way area. The second drivers side compartment consisted of mounting a floor board and adding a 1″ x 1″ aluminum edge to the front of the cabinet to hold the storage totes in place. In the third driver side compartment, Sensible Products mounted 2 saws, ventilation fan, fuel can, cord reel, saw parts, and extra blades. Black floor boards were added on the shelf and slide out tray. A pocket for saw parts was added to the wall and a post for extra blades was mounted as well. The rear of the truck housed the rural water delivery appliances. Blitz Fire, Gated Wye, Water Thief, Suction Strainer were all secured with a post or straps. In the passengers side third compartment a shelf was removed and a Chanl Panl wall board was added for future use. In the lower portion of the cabinet, a custom plastic welded divider by Sensible Products was made to hold air bags and cribbing. Straps then secured both of these items in place. In the second passengers side compartment, a Chanl Panl wall board was added and 2 extinguishers and an SCBA were mounted. The first passengers side compartment was all extrication equipment. Sensible Products designed and fabricated an aluminum framework to hold Lucas cutters, spreaders, and ram. A pocket was added on the back of the framework to hold a GlasMaster and seat belt cutter. In the upper portion of this cabinet, 2 plastic welded brackets held the hoses for the extrication equipment. Tools were mounted on both the drivers and passengers side in the cab. Axes, Halligan tool, and light sticks were all mounted. All equipment was labeled with red/white labels. This truck was completed in 3 1/2 days and is ready to Go In-Service when leaving Sensible Products.
